Cook & Co; the go-to place in Auburn
In the past 5 years, in Auburn, many Turkish restaurants ended up changing owners and cuisines they serve. Yet a new name emerged becoming the new “go-to” place for Turkish food lovers and many Turkish-Australians in the area.
Cook & Co was originally found as “Impress Wood-fired cuisine” in 2013. Years later, after changing some of the management, the joint was re-branded as Cook & Co in 2016.
Cook & Co’s décor seems just as contemporary as their interpretations of traditional Turkish food, a cuisine that’s hugely underrepresented in Australia.
Located conveniently by the Auburn Central carpark. Cook & Co has outdoor seating with a special part reserved for smokers.
Inside the restaurant there are two halls, separated by a bar area in the middle making each section capable of holding around 50 guests with a versatile setting for private parties.
The place is ideal for weekend breakfasts. The menu has a rich selection of Turkish breakfast favorites. Sucuklu and Kasarli Tost (wood-fire baked Turkish bread toasted with spicy sucuk and cheese), Sahanda Sucuk & Pastirma & eggs, Bal Kaymak represent the traditional Turkish breakfast staples. Cook & Co’s own fusion of Turkish and world cuisine dishes are also noteworthy. Their “Farmer’s Smash” comes with poached eggs, grilled haloumi & mushroom, smashed avocado and dukkah accompanied by fresh wood-fired Turkish bread. The “Cook & Co breakfast” is served with with Fresh baked Zataar bread and comes with beef sausages, fries, tomatoes, cucumbers, boiled free range eggs, labne topped off with a dukkah garnish.
Cook & Co’s lentil soup is widely famous in Turkish circles as it is distinctly different to the lentil soups served by the other Turkish joints in the city. Cook & Co’s version is a lot thicker with buttery flavour served in a clay pot. We recommend trying the lentil soup even if you’re just dropping by for coffee or tea.
Cook & Co also offers a diverse range of pizza and pide varieties. You can find pizzas from traditional Italian flavours to fusion pizzas with toppings from Turkish & world cuisine.
If you’re after a quick bite. You may also try their kofte roll which is only $9.90 and comes with grilled home-made style koftes accompanied by crispy lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles served in a roll.
Finally if you’re a looking for a filling Turkish dinner, we recommend ordering the slow cooked lamb-shoulder. It is served with bulgur pilavi, salad, shredded pickles and labnah.
Cook & Co is the ideal place to meet a mate in Auburn as it is right next to Auburn Central Car Park. You can park your car, get a table, sit down to have a quick bite; perhaps a bowl of lentil soup or just some Turkish tea.
The staff is friendly, the service is usually prompt. Although you may expect slower service when the place is real busy during weekend breakfast times.
Cook & Co is on a laneway off 66 Auburn Road.
The restaurant is open from 9am to 5 pm from Monday to Tuesday, and is open from 9am to 10pm the rest of the week.
