What does the Turkish flag look like?

by everythingturkish February 24, 2023

The flag of Turkey, also known as the Turkish national flag, is a red field with a white crescent moon and a white five-pointed star in the center. The flag has a rectangular shape with a ratio of 2:3.

The red field of the flag symbolizes the blood of Turkish soldiers who fought for the country’s independence, while the white crescent and star are traditional symbols of Islam and represent the country’s heritage as a predominantly Muslim nation. The crescent and star also symbolize hope, as well as the unity and equality of all Turkish citizens.

The design of the Turkish flag has a long history and has gone through several iterations over time. The current design was adopted on June 5, 1936, by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which replaced the former Ottoman Empire flag with the new national flag.

The Turkish flag is an important symbol of national identity for the Turkish people, and it is displayed prominently throughout the country. The flag is raised at government buildings, military bases, schools, and other public locations, and it is also commonly flown by Turkish citizens on special occasions and holidays.

In addition to its national significance, the Turkish flag is also recognized internationally as the official flag of the Republic of Turkey and is flown at embassies and consulates around the world.
